Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Plato ("we", "us") collects when you use the Plato app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Plato is operated by CrawlSense. If you have questions, contact us at support@crawlsense.ai.
Your account and identity
You can use Plato anonymously by default: we create a random device identifier (a UUID) for your account, and we do not require your name or email to use the app. You may optionally choose Sign in with Apple, in which case Apple may share your name and email address, or a private Apple relay email address, depending on your choice. We use this only to identify your account and sync your data across devices.
Data we collect
To estimate calories and macros and track your progress, Plato processes:
- Meal photos you capture or upload for analysis.
- Food descriptions you type instead of, or in addition to, a photo.
- Body and goal data you choose to enter: weight, and profile details such as age, sex, height, and your goal.
- Meal history and the calorie and macro estimates generated for you.
- Account identifiers: an anonymous random device UUID, and — only if you use Sign in with Apple — the name and email (or Apple private relay email) Apple returns to us.
- Usage and device data (app interactions, device type, app version, crash diagnostics, and an install identifier) to keep the app working and improve it.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
If you connect Plato to Apple Health (optional), we read your daily active energy and your body weight to adapt your daily calorie target to your real activity and to power your progress charts, and — only if you additionally enable it — we write your confirmed meals (calories and macronutrients) to Apple Health. This data is synced to your account on our servers (Google Cloud, EU) solely for these features. We never use Health data for advertising or marketing, never sell it or share it with third parties, and it is never sent to Anthropic. You can disconnect Apple Health at any time in the app (Account → Apple Health) or revoke access in Apple's Health app; deleting your account also deletes this data.
How we use your data
We use your data to analyze your meals and produce calorie and macro estimates, to save and sync your history, to power the personalized coach, to operate subscriptions, to fix bugs and improve the app, and to comply with the law. We do not sell your personal data.
AI processing
When you analyze a meal, the meal photo and any text description you provide are sent to Anthropic, PBC (United States) and processed through its Claude API to identify the food and estimate calories and macros. Anthropic acts as our service provider for this feature, and under our contract your photos and descriptions are not used to train AI models. Google Cloud does not run this AI analysis — it is used only for hosting and storage (see "Third parties we use"). Results are estimates and may be inaccurate; you can review and adjust them.
Third parties we use
We share limited data with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract. Each receives only the data it needs for its role:
- Anthropic, PBC (United States) — receives the meal photos and text descriptions you submit, and runs the Claude AI models that analyze them. Under contract, this data is not used to train AI models.
- Google Cloud (European Union, region europe-west1) — provides hosting and storage only (your account and meal history). Google Cloud does not run the AI analysis of your meals.
- Apple — processes your subscription payment (Apple is the merchant of record). We never receive your full payment details. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple also provides the account details described above.
- RevenueCat (United States) — receives an app user identifier and purchase/receipt data to manage your subscription status and entitlements.
- Sentry (United States) — receives crash and diagnostic data and an install identifier so we can detect and fix problems.
International data transfers
Plato stores account and meal-history data in the European Union (Google Cloud, region europe-west1). Some of our service providers — including Anthropic, RevenueCat, and Sentry — are located in the United States, so your data may be transferred to and processed there. Where we transfer personal data outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and/or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, to protect it.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account and all associated data directly inside the app, under Settings → Delete account. This works for both anonymous (device UUID) accounts and Sign in with Apple accounts. You can also email support@crawlsense.ai to request deletion. Once you delete your account, we erase your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, tax, or security obligations.
Your rights (GDPR and similar)
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict, or object to the processing of your data, and the right to erasure. You can delete your account and data directly inside the app (Settings → Delete account), or email support@crawlsense.ai and we will action your request. You may also withdraw consent or lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we erase your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, tax, or security obligations.
Children
Plato is not intended for children under 16 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Estimates, not medical advice
Plato's calorie and macro figures are AI-generated estimates for general informational purposes only. They are not medical, nutritional, or dietary advice and are not a substitute for professional guidance. Consult a qualified professional before making decisions about your diet or health.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
